Between Missions
Between missions and adventures around the galaxy, the team may have some time to rest and explore other interests.
During this downtime, there are plenty of things that a Freelancer can do.

Resting and Recouperating
As tough as a Freelancer needs to be to survive in the starlight, they will need to eventually rest.
Resting will give the team a chance to heal and recoup abilities, as well as shake-off some status effects.
Quick rest
A quick rest is about thirty minutes to an hour. This rest allows the Freelancers to expend healing effects and regain some abilities.
During this time, the Freelancers can perform non-strenuous activities like basic equipment maintenance, general exploration of the environment, or just relaxing.
Healing
During a quick rest, a Freelancer may expend hit die and roll them to heal that much. These expended hit die do not recoup until after a full rest.
Full rest
A full rest can be six hours of sleep or eight hours of non-strenuous activity. During a full rest the Freelancer can actually recoup from their injuries.
Healing
During a full rest, a Freelancer rolls one hit die plus any unused hit die from the Freelancer’s quick rests.
Crafting
For roleplay purposes, anyone can craft cosmetic items with some proficiency. However, the creation of items needs to be between the Player and the Gamemaster to determine costs for parts, checks, and time spent.
The table below gives general ranges and grades of equipment; of course the cost, time, and check may vary depending on what is going on.
Economy and Expense
While not a major concern for most Freelancers that choose a more nomadic lifestyle chasing one job after another; some Freelancers will choose a base of operations.
Post-Scarcity Economy
Replicators, as crude or refined as they can be, as well as entire automated factory complexes, the real need for money is all but nonexistent.
Individual reputations and skills are more valued as well as some hard to replicate materials.
This generally means that anyone can get reasonable long-term accommodation with little in the way of price as the property owner wants to have a good reputation as a host so more will stay at their locations, same with merchants and crafters.
In a sea of easily manufactured goods, handmade, bespoke, and generally high-quality items are at a premium and the maker’s and merchant’s reputation can be line the line if they do it wrong.
Common Consumables and Lodging
When not in the field, Freelancers may stay in various hostels or inns or eating at established restaurants or from street merchants. Below are common costs for a day’s worth of consumables and a night’s worth of housing.
Transportation
Most Freelancers do not have vehicles to operate from, in those cases, they will often need to hire someone to take them to a location.

Repair and Maintenance
Sometimes equipment starts to break down and needs to be repaired, or they become worn and need a bit of upkeep.
The cost of repair and maintenance is based on the original cost of the item itself. Higher priced and graded equipment usually has tighter tolerances or use special, hard to get, materials. On the following table, the cost is a multiplier added to the original cost of the item. If it’s a bigger more complex item with multiple modules, the cost is the total cost of the whole item.
Repair versus Maintenance
Items that are completely non-functional can be repaired for the repair cost, bringing them back into operation and without negative effects. Sometimes an item is destroyed and at that point, it cannot. An item that has acquired negative effects but is otherwise functional just needs some maintenance.
Vehicle Maintenance
Vehicle are large and complex machines that need constant Maintenance to remain in peak condition. If a vehicle has an NPC crew, it is assumed that they do it, but if not, then each character needs to slot some time into their down time to maintaining the vehicle.
